At 1:08 p.m. on August 7, a magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck Gao County in Yibin, Sichuan Province, at a depth of 6 kilometers. A magnitude-3.0 aftershock hit at 4:02 p.m. Videos posted online showed people rushing outside in fear. A courtyard wall collapsed, furniture shook violently, and cracks appeared in the walls of many buildings. Concrete and broken bricks were scattered across the ground.
