On August 4, a chemical plant in Kunming, Yunnan Province, caught fire during the loading and unloading of yellow phosphorus, causing a large amount of toxic substances to leak. Thick white smoke filled the area, accompanied by a strong pungent odor. Local residents reported symptoms including dry throats and coughing, and have since been evacuated.
