China’s 100-Ton Missile Warship, Sold to Iran 30 Years Ago, Destroyed by US—Never Left Port

In the early hours of March, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had several ships, which they referred to as “the sea’s divine needle,” docked at the Chabahar port in the Oman Gulf and the Bandar Abbas base in the Strait of Hormuz. There were no loud air defense alarms, and the people below didn’t even have time to look up. The first laser-guided bomb fell from the sky with a piercing screech, and with terrifying force from free fall and rocket propulsion, it smashed through the deck of the famous P29B-class missile boat, known by Iran as the “Thunder” class. In an effort to show off its firepower, Iran had equipped this 100-ton boat with four massive “Qader” anti-ship missiles on its stern. It was essentially like carrying four large bombs down the street. The intense heat from the explosion immediately ignited the solid propellant of these anti-ship missiles. “Martyrdom explosion” — the most tragic two words in naval warfare — occurred.
