A Chinese woman who began vomiting blood shortly after taking a so-called weight loss shot has stunned social media.
Over a month ago, the 28-year-old surnamed Chen from Suzhou, Jiangsu province in southeastern China, saw an advertisement for a “weight-loss injection” in a friend’s social media post.
Her friend claimed that each shot could lead to at least 3.5 kilograms of weight loss.

Tempted by the promise, Chen paid 900 yuan (US$130) for a full treatment package that included three injections.

As she had never used such products before and wanted to play it safe, Chen decided to inject only half the recommended dose. It was applied around her belly button.
Following the injection, Chen experienced vomiting, nausea and a loss of appetite. However, she did not take it seriously, assuming these were normal side effects of the drug and part of the expected weight loss.

“In the first three days, I really did lose almost a kilogram a day. I lost 5kg in total over just four days,” Chen said.
