Malaysian police defend bodyguards’ viral leap onto moving car at Asean summit

Two female bodyguards have set Malaysian social media abuzz after a video showing them leaping onto a moving SUV during the recent Asean summit went viral – a moment the police have since defended as standard and professionally executed security protocol.

The widely shared clip shows the pair – dressed in formal black suits and headscarves – jogging after a sport utility vehicle carrying foreign delegates before each opening a rear door, stepping onto the footboard and taking position with the doors ajar as the vehicle continues moving forward.

The slick manoeuvre drew wide admiration online for the women’s composure and athleticism, with many likening it to an action film sequence.

The video, first uploaded on October 26, has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, garnered almost 18,000 likes and attracted more than 1,500 comments, many praising the professionalism and poise of Malaysia’s policewomen.

“Fainted while watching the policewomen jump onto the car. Great Malaysian forces,” one social media user commented, as reported by The Straits Times.

“Malaysian policewomen are amazing. The best!”, added another, according to the New Straits Times. “I thought things like this only happened in Chinese dramas. Awesome seeing it in real life!”

While the viral clip thrilled social media users, it also sparked debate over whether such tactics were really necessary. Police commanders and security professionals said the manoeuvre was not for show but part of well-rehearsed VIP protection routines deployed during high-risk transitions.
