Man collapses and dies while clearing drainage channel in Hong Kong

A man in his 60s has collapsed and died while clearing a drainage channel in Hong Kong.

He was found unconscious on Tuesday afternoon by a passer-by next to the one-metre-deep (3.2 feet) drain in a back alley off Portland Street near Changsha Street in Mong Kok.

The man had reportedly been cleaning the drain at around 2pm.

His body was found lying beside the channel, with his head partially inside it, police said.

It was not immediately known whether the incident was related to toxic gases within the drainage system.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed him dead.
