Many Hong Kong restaurants could enjoy a 10 per cent rise in revenue for the Mid-Autumn Festival on Monday compared with last year, an industry leader has said, even as some operators remain cautious despite the event overlapping with other celebrations.

A tourism sector body also said various activities would be held across the city and were set to attract visitors, creating a “very ideal” tourism landscape.

Simon Wong Ka-wo, president of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, said he expected the revenue for Chinese restaurants on Monday night to increase by 10 per cent from last year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, with the overall turnover for the night potentially reaching about HK$350 million (US$44.9 million).

Most Chinese restaurants were fully booked, while some tables were even booked for a second time slot in the evening, he added.

“Most Hong Kong residents have chosen to stay in Hong Kong to celebrate the festival, and they are willing to spend money in the evening,” Wong said.

He said the bullish stock market recently has helped stimulate consumption, and estimated the average spending per table at about HK$5,000.
