14 injured after Hong Kong coach strikes footbridge, loses front roof section

Fourteen people were injured in Hong Kong after a coach struck a footbridge and had the front of its roof ripped off near the Heung Yuen Wai checkpoint on Tuesday.

Police received a report at 12.12pm after the coach ascended an auxiliary road linked to Lin Ma Hang Road in Ta Kwu Ling and struck the underside of a pedestrian bridge.

This section of the road is restricted to cars only. It has a height limit of 2.4 metres (7.9 feet), while the tour bus was reportedly more than three metres tall.

The front part of the coach’s roof was damaged after colliding with the footbridge.

Following the accident, the vehicle was parked on a sloping auxiliary road that leads up to the main control point facility.

The force said the 14 people, aged 38 to 85, sustained slight injuries and were taken to three hospitals. They are all from mainland China.
