From slippers and sanitary towels to diapers and potty pads, Hongkongers showed off their creative skills – and humour – in coping with water seepage and rattling windows as Super Typhoon Ragasa battered the city.

Well-schooled from their previous experiences with super typhoons, residents on Wednesday took to social media to share their best tips and tricks on how to protect their windows and prevent leakages.
Ragasa, which triggered the No 10 typhoon warning, shut down the city as it edged as close as 100km (62.1 miles) south of Hong Kong on Wednesday morning.
In addition to the tried and tested method of taping windows with adhesive in large Xs, Hongkongers declared that sanitary towels worked wonders in absorbing seepage from leaky windows.
Commercial radio DJ Wong Ching-yi, who lamented on the social media platform Threads that her windows were leaking badly, tried it out at the recommendation of other users.

“It’s crazy, sanitary towels are really good at absorbing water,” she posted. “Placing one napkin at the gap is enough to soak up everything.”
