4 men wanted over shop burglary during T8 typhoon alert in Hong Kong

Hong Kong police are searching for four men who broke into a second-hand luxury goods shop as a storm approached the city and stole Chanel and Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery worth HK$300,000.

The police force said on Monday that the alarm system of the Mong Kok store was triggered at about 3.30am when four masked men smashed its glass door, entered and stole second-hand luxury goods.

One of the suspects was bleeding after cutting his hand on glass, police added.

The case, involving the Top One Luxury shop in the Ho King Commercial Centre on Fa Yuen Street, has been classified as a burglary.

At the time of the break-in, the No 8 typhoon signal was in force as Severe Tropical Storm Tapah approached the city. When a No 8 signal has been issued, most of the city grinds to a halt, with public transport and other services suspended.

Police are seeking four men after examining surveillance camera footage. No arrests had been made so far while the shop was still counting its losses, the force said.
