Hong Kong’s Cathay seeks police help in removing ‘intoxicated’ passenger

Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways called for police to help remove a passenger who was reportedly intoxicated and behaving in an unruly manner, resulting in a flight delay of nearly two hours.

The carrier said on Saturday that flight CX255 from Hong Kong to London, scheduled to depart at 11.15pm on September 4, was delayed due to a 38-year-old British male passenger.

“The captain made the decision to offload the concerned passenger in accordance with the safety guidelines, and the passenger was escorted off the aircraft by the airport staff and police,” a Cathay spokesman said.

He said the flight departed at 12.46am on September 5 and safely arrived at London Heathrow at 7.30am local time.

“The safety of our customers and crew guides every decision we make. We sincerely apologise to the affected customers for the inconvenience,” he said.

Flight tracking data showed the flight departed at 1.05am in Hong Kong on Friday after a delay of almost two hours and arrived at London’s Heathrow airport at 7.27am local time.

Police added that they were called to get on board the flight at 11.48pm on Thursday night to remove the passenger for being disruptive.
