Immigration policy in the United States has entered a new phase. Reports say the Trump administration has issued about 21,500 fines, totaling 6.1 billion US dollars, to immigrants accused of ignoring deportation orders. The government is using a combination of fines, lawsuits, and tax actions to pressure undocumented immigrants to leave.
According to the Wall Street Journal, a Chinese worker at a restaurant in New York recently received a fine of 1.8 million dollars. A judge had ordered his deportation back in 1998, but he stayed in the country.
