Malaysian anti-scam police raid Singapore firm with ties to Man United

Malaysian police have arrested more than 400 people in Kuala Lumpur following a raid on an office linked to a Singaporean fintech company that sponsors Manchester United.

The operation unfolded on Tuesday, when officers swept through the company’s five-storey premises, detaining hundreds of suspects and transporting them in a convoy of police vans to the Travers Police Station in Bangsar for processing.

“Investigations are ongoing since it involves a large number of arrests. A special press conference will be held soon,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus told local media.

Footage of the raid quickly went viral on social media, with bystanders capturing scenes of detainees lined up and ushered into the backs of police vans, while officers were seen carrying black plastic bags containing seized items from the office.

Authorities have yet to announce the nationalities of those who were detained.

Scam call centres have become a persistent problem in Malaysia, with police frequently uncovering operations concealed within luxury condominiums in Kuala Lumpur. These centres, often staffed by foreign nationals, run a range of frauds – from investment scams to impersonations of government officials and online gambling schemes – targeting victims both within Malaysia and overseas.
