Inspector Wan Man-kin of the Wong Tai Sin police district on Wednesday said officers launched an investigation last Thursday after an employee of a restaurant at a shopping centre in Choi Hung reported a break-in.
Wan said the lock and security chain of the venue’s front door had been broken, with a safe, cash box and tablet computer taken during the incident.
The device and the contents of the safe and cash box were valued at HK$25,000, the inspector added.
Officers found burglary tools at the scene and later recovered the safe and cash box nearby.

Police identified the suspect after an extensive review of CCTV footage, with officers apprehending the man in Mong Kok on Tuesday.
“Police also recovered clothing the man wore during the crimes and some of the stolen money,” Wan said.
