Hong Kong cancels amber rainstorm warning, but heavy showers persist

Hong Kong’s weather forecaster has issued an amber rainstorm warning signal, saying the city is expected to experience widespread heavy showers and a few squally thunderstorms.

The Hong Kong Observatory raised the signal at 9.41am on Tuesday and said that an active southerly airstream was bringing showers and squally thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of South China Sea.

The forecaster added that a tropical depression over the northern part of Vietnam was centred about 160km southwest of Nanning at 8am and was forecast to dissipate gradually after entering inland Guangxi.
