A Chinese man who fed wild mushrooms to his pet dog to test if they were safe before letting his family eat them paid for his folly when the whole family ended up in hospital.

The 74-year-old from southwestern China’s Sichuan province found several clusters of wild mushrooms on his herb farmland on July 13.
They looked white and slippery, like the termite mushrooms found at local markets, the man’s son, surnamed Jiang, told the mainland media outlet Shandian News.
Despite knowing that wild mushrooms could be poisonous, Jiang senior was unwilling to ditch them.

Instead, he cooked them and fed them to his pet dog to test if they were safe to eat.
