Police said on Monday that the 66-year-old man and 62-year-old woman, both Hongkongers, were arrested for using a false instrument for allegedly presenting the bonds to the bank.

Bank staff reported the case to the force at 12.35pm on Monday, prompting officers to arrest and detain the couple.

While police stopped short of directly naming the company involved in the case, it said the couple had gone to a bank on 29 Queen’s Road Central, which is the location of an HSBC branch.

The Post has reached out to the bank for confirmation.
