Typhoon signal No 1 will remain in force on Saturday, Hong Kong’s weather forecaster said, adding the chance of issuing a higher warning is “rather low”.

The Hong Kong Observatory also issued a very hot warning at 6.45am. Temperatures in some districts will reach 35 degrees or above on Saturday and Sunday.

“The circulation of [tropical cyclone] Danas is relatively small. Unless it intensifies significantly and adopts a track closer to the Pearl River Estuary, there will not be strong winds generally over the territory,” the Observatory said.

According to the forecast, Danas will move slowly over the northeastern part of the South China Sea and skirt around 400 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong for the rest of Saturday and Sunday morning.
