310 Dams in Hunan Submerged by Floods, Over 1,000 Tofu-Dreg Dams in China at Risk of Collapse

Since June 18, heavy to torrential rain has been falling continuously in many parts of Hunan Province. Rainfall levels have broken historical records. Because of the intense downpours, water levels in several reservoirs in the Lishui River basin, which is part of the Dongting Lake system, have risen above warning levels. Dams like the Changtan River Power Station, Dongmen Dam, and Sanjiangkou Dam in Shimen have been releasing large amounts of water. But the water volume is too much to handle, and now, 310 reservoirs and dams across the province are facing overflow risks.
