Hong Kong motorists will start receiving tickets for traffic fines electronically from June 15, in a move aimed at improving efficiency.

Police said on Thursday that residents who had registered their mobile phone number or email address with transport authorities would receive digital tickets for parking violations or traffic offences once the new system began operation next month.
Motorists will also be able to pay penalties on a digital platform set up by the force. Payment methods include the city’s Faster Payment System, Google Pay, Apple Pay and some credit cards.
Printed copies of the tickets will still be placed on vehicles during a transition period.

“What I want to highlight is that after digitalisation, we will enhance our efficiency in traffic enforcement,” said Nip Hoi-kwan, a superintendent from the force’s traffic management and prosecutions bureau.
