Racists and losers: J.D. Vance and America’s stupid trade war

The thing about every ridiculous or outrageous public statement coming from US President Donald Trump and his cronies is how the world responds with a token bit of collective pearl-clutching and then moves on like nothing has happened until the next shocker.

That’s why it’s important to keep reminding everyone what kind of people are now, in their own words, “running the world” from the White House.

A case in point is the vile racism that US Vice-President J.D. Vance spewed recently while going on national television in a feeble attempt to defend the indefensible – his lord and master’s utterly stupid, totally pointless, and highly destructive trade war against China.

“We borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture,” he told Trump’s media acolytes at Fox News.

The interviewer, of course, had no objection to the crude and offensive explanation reflecting America’s frustration over its utter failure to slap down the upper hand that China holds in their economic relationship.

Vance’s monolingual outburst did not specify, for Chinese audiences, whether by “peasant” he meant xianglabao (country bumpkin, ignorant villager) or nongmin (farmer), but he was obviously referring to the former in the pejorative sense.
