How many dams does China have? Chinese official data from 2020 reported a total of 98,566 dams nationwide. But just five years later, at this year’s “Two Sessions,” China’s Minister of Water Resources casually stated the number had dropped to 94,877, meaning 3,689 dams disappeared in five years.
