China son quits job to care for ‘2-year-old’ mum who lost mental faculties after falling ill

A 32-year-old man in southwestern China has quit his job to travel with his mother, a former obstetrician who lost her mental faculties due to illness.

Zhang Zhi lives with his mother in Sichuan province. He shares their travel experiences and daily life on social media, where he has gained more than 300,000 followers.

Mainland media reports that Zhang was raised by his mother after his parents divorced when he was a child.

His 58-year-old mother, Yuan, suffers from frontotemporal dementia, a degenerative brain disorder that has left her with the mental capacity of a two-year-old.
