A technical fault caused more than six hours of service disruptions on Hong Kong’s East Rail line on Sunday, with delays affecting commuters as staff worked to clear a track between two stations.

The MTR Corporation said it would gradually resume normal operations on the line at around noon, hours after first announcing the technical problem on an engineer’s train near Fo Tan station at around 5am.
“The engineering staff have completed the emergency repair and moved the engineer’s train away from the scene,” the company said.
The rail giant had said the train was located on the northbound track between Sha Tin and Fo Tan stations. Trains carrying passengers had been forced to run on a single track between the two stops.
During the repairs, services had been running every 20 minutes between Admiralty and Lok Ma Chau stations, via Racecourse, without stopping at Fo Tan.

Trains had been running every 10 minutes between Admiralty and Lo Wu stations, while those between Admiralty and Tai Wai arrived every five minutes.
