Back in February, three Chinese naval ships conducted an unexpected military exercise in international waters around Australia, sparking significant controversy. While the exercise took place in open waters and was legally conducted, the way it was carried out raised concerns. Australia was not promptly notified about the exercise, leading to a civilian airline pilot witnessing missiles flying overhead and urgently reporting it to air traffic control. It was only then that the Australian authorities received a delayed notification from China, which failed to clarify whether the exercise involved live-fire drills, leaving many unanswered questions.
