China’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD, has come under fire, with workers calling it a “sweatshop” due to alleged exploitation and unfair labor practices. In recent weeks, workers at BYD’s factories in Wuxi and Chengdu have gone on strike to protest the company’s efforts to lower salaries and accusations that it misappropriated a 1 billion yuan compensation fund from the acquisition of Jabil. Workers are demanding proper compensation and the right to leave the company.
