Economic and trade connections were fundamental to China-US ties, Li emphasised.
According to state news agency Xinhua, Li told the Republican lawmaker that China-US relations had reached a “new and significant juncture”, as he urged the US to abide by the “principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence” and cooperation.
Li, China’s No 2 official, also called for “candid communication” to deepen trust and practical cooperation and to promote the “stable, healthy and sustainable development” of mutual relations.
“History tells us that China and the United States both stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. Both sides need to choose dialogue over confrontation, win-win cooperation over zero-sum competition,” he said.
