Singapore is working with Indonesia to extradite Paulus Tannos, a suspected corruption fugitive, in the first such case under a treaty between the countries that took effect last year.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Singapore’s Minister for Law K Shanmugam said Indonesia had lodged a request for Tannos’ extradition two weeks ago on February 24, and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) had since been working closely with its Indonesian counterpart on the case.

“AGC is currently reviewing the request and the accompanying documents. Once the legal requirements for extradition are met, the process will be brought before the courts again,” he said.

Singapore received the request from Indonesia to provisionally arrest Tannos, a permanent resident in the city state, in December last year.

The republic’s corruption watchdog then applied for the court to issue an arrest warrant on January 17, and the arrest was made on the same day, Shanmugam said.

“The court granted the arrest order on the same day and on the same day, Tannos was arrested,” he said.
