99% of Chinese Don’t Know Their Daily Tax Burden: Despite Heavy Taxes, Life Remains Tough

Let’s start with China’s individual income tax. According to this online article, over 60% of income tax revenue in China comes from wages, with 8.4% of the salaried population contributing nearly 60% of the wage income tax.
This is a staggering figure. For example, in 2014, wage income accounted for 65% of income tax revenue. This means that the combined contribution of the other 10 types of income taxes was less than that of wage income alone.
