The first batch of 8,500 tickets for the opening ceremony of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park’s opening ceremony have sold out after just 30 minutes.

Over 20,000 residents interested in buying tickets were told they had to wait for up to two hours when online sales began at 10am on Friday, according to the ticketing platform. But after 15 minutes, only about 300 tickets were left, the Post found.
As of 10.22am, the Post’s reporter could not buy a ticket and at around 10.35am, the platform said all tickets were sold out.
The opening ceremony will feature performers such as Hong Kong action movie star Donnie Yen, Cantopop idols Joey Yung, Gin Lee and “MC” Cheung Tin-fu, veteran singers George Lam Tsz-cheung and Sally Yeh Chen-ven, as well as mainland Chinese celebrity Li Yuchun, aka Chris Lee.
Hong Kong’s Olympic gold medal fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai, badminton duo Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet and table tennis player Doo Hoi-kem are also in the line-up, along with table tennis champion Fan Zhendong of the Chinese national team and badminton legend Lin Dan.

A total of 33,600 of the stadium’s 50,000 seats will be sold for the show, including the 8,500 tickets priced at HK$10 (US$1.30) each that were snapped up on Friday.
