Five Hong Kong firefighters were hurt on Friday after their vehicle was rear-ended by a goods truck when they went to assist at a traffic accident involving a car and a wild boar.

The initial crash took place in Sai Kung at about 11.24am when a Kowloon-bound private car was travelling along Clear Water Bay Road.

As the car neared the Cloud Court blocks of flats at No 385 Clear Water Bay Road, a boar reportedly jumped out. The car could not stop in time and knocked down the boar, police said.

“A fire engine passed the scene at the time and the firefighters parked their vehicle to try to help handle the incident. But a medium goods vehicle behind failed to stop in time and rear-ended the fire engine,” a police spokesman said.

The five firefighters suffered minor injuries and were sent to United Christian Hospital for treatment. The truck driver also complained of a headache.
