Three Hongkongers have been jailed for up to 18 years for their roles in a conspiracy to carry out bomb attacks during the 2019 anti-government protests.

The defendants were escorted to the High Court on Monday for sentencing on a count of conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.
Fishing-gear seller Lukas Ho Cheuk-wai, 41, received the heaviest sentence of 18 years for masterminding the attacks, including providing a rental flat for producing explosives and buying the necessary raw ingredients.
Decoration worker Lee Ka-pan, 31, and programmer Cheung Ka-chun, 35, were each imprisoned for 16 years and eight months for their active participation.
Mr Justice Johnny Chan Jong-herng slammed the trio for pushing their luck after enjoying a taste of success in two initial attacks that caused no casualties.

Chan said the accused displayed little to no remorse for the crime, highlighting the need for sufficiently deterrent sentences to protect society from harm.
