Senior Inspector Chan Pik-shan said on Saturday that police were also searching for two suspects believed to have been the masterminds of the attack at a bus terminus in Admiralty.
“The police investigation has led us to believe that the victim was attacked as he was misidentified as someone else given he had a similar appearance and figure,” Chan said.
“The police’s arrest operation will continue. The force has already indentified two individuals whom we believe to be the masterminds. They have already been listed as wanted persons.”
Chan said that the masterminds were suspected to have hired the alleged assailants over a monetary dispute.

The victim was attacked at around 10pm on Wednesday by a person with a sharp blade, while another man nearby filmed the assault using a smartphone.
“After the attack, the two men fled from the scene in the direction of Wan Chai,” Chan said. “The victim had suffered from multiple knife wounds on his hands and back.”
