20 Hong Kong students hospitalised after trolley set ablaze outside school

Twenty students have been hospitalised for smoke inhalation after a trolley was set alight in a suspected arson attack outside a primary school in Hong Kong.

Police said they received a call just before 12.30pm on Thursday that a trolley had caught fire on Tai Pak Tin Lane in Kwai Chung, near the entrance of the Shek Lei St. John’s Catholic Primary School.

The fire that engulfed the trolley sent plumes of heavy smoke into the surrounding air.

The 20 students comprising 13 girls and 7 boys were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung and Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan to be treated for smoke inhalation.

All the children were conscious as they were sent for treatment, according to police.

Authorities are investigating the fire as a case of suspected arson.
