The pair – a suspected knifeman and the driver of a getaway vehicle – were detained by mainland police in Guangxi in March for illegally crossing the border while attempting to enter Vietnam.

The victim, 52, who allegedly had triad ties, was attacked on the afternoon of March 16 by two knife-wielding assailants outside his home at the junction of Lai Wo Lane and Sui Wo Road, next to Sha Tin Junior School in Fo Tan.

The attackers fled in a waiting taxi. The man died in hospital that evening.

One of the knifemen, a spotter and the taxi driver fled to the mainland.

The knifeman and the driver were recently handed over to Hong Kong police.

On Wednesday morning, police escorted the pair, who were hooded and shackled, to a footpath near Tai Po Road by Kowloon Reservoir for a reconstruction of the crime.
