2 Hong Kong residents rescued from smoke-filled flat in Mid-Levels and rushed to hospital

Two unconscious residents were rushed to hospital after being rescued from a smoke-filled flat in Hong Kong’s upscale Mid-Levels residential area on Wednesday.

Emergency personnel were called to Belmont Court on Kotewall Road at around 12.58pm after police received multiple calls from the tenants, according to the force.

“The callers reported that dense smoke was being emitted from one of the flats in the building,” a police spokesman said.

He said a man and a woman were rescued from the flat and the pair were taken unconscious to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam.

A government spokeswoman said about 30 residents were evacuated from the building.

She said firefighters used a water jet to battle the blaze which was extinguished at 1.15pm.

The Fire Services Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.
