Pictures circulating online showed that the vehicle was operated by Citybus and appeared to have hit the water barrier. Emergency personnel, including at least three fire engines, were spotted at the scene.

The Transport Department said that part of Kwai Chung-bound lanes of the highway near Hoi Lai Estate had been closed due to the accident. The Tsing Sha Highway slip road bound for Stonecutters Bridge was also closed to traffic.

Traffic was busy and motorists were advised to use alternative routes, according to the department.
