More than 10,000 households in Hong Kong’s Eastern District have been left without fresh water after a pipe burst in Shau Kei Wan – marking the area’s second major outage in three months – forcing restaurants to close and sending residents queuing into the streets for emergency supplies.
According to the Water Supplies Department, emergency repairs are under way, with fresh water supply expected to resume before midnight.
A video circulating on social media on Tuesday shows water gushing from the ground at a worksite near a bus stop, with an excavator parked nearby.

The department said on its website that the water supply was cut at 11am, affecting Sai Wan Ho, Shau Kei Wan, Aldrich Bay and the area from A Kung Ngam Road to Island Garden.
