Hong Kong police launched a murder investigation after a resident found a man dead with his face discoloured near a busy Kowloon street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The force said a woman filed a report at around 6am after she found the man lying unconscious near Bowring Street in Jordan.
He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei where he was confirmed dead at 8:24am.
The case was initially classified as manslaughter, but the force was now treating it as a suspected murder.
Police said the man’s face was discoloured when he was found.
The investigation is being handled by the Yau Tsim district crime squad.
Last Wednesday, a 57-year-old woman died and her 66-year-old businessman husband was fighting for his life after he allegedly set fire to their flat in Mid-Levels over suspected marital issues in what police classified as an attempted murder-suicide.
A 32-year-old woman was arrested in June after she allegedly killed her husband with a 30cm-long (12 inches) fruit knife as he slept on the couch, before attempting to take her own life.
That same month, a 59-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend, who had allegedly lost consciousness after she fell to the ground and suffered a head injury during a domestic dispute.
In May, a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after he allegedly got into a fight with his 50-year-old father, who later died from injuries that included an 8cm wound on the head.
